Abrakadabra

ABRACADABRA is the only collection by Janja Prokić which is not characterized by organic shapes. By contrast, it features sharp edges. “They symbolise the fact that one may balance on the edge but not for too long. Sooner or later, one will fall. I think that’s why it’s important for all of us to know where we want to belong,” says Janja, explaining the meaning of the sharp contours. “The edge refracts light in shadow and thus brings the symbolism of white magic to every object. We can decide if we want to side with good or evil in this world,” she adds.

Moreover, the jewellery designer has come up with product design for the first time. “I believe that objects have real functions and should be used.” The main motif of the ABRACADABRA collection is the Ouroboros, a snake that eats its own tail, an ancient Greek symbol of the neverending return from the end to the beginning, the necessity of the death of one, so that the other can arrive. The number six is crucial for the collection. Six different compositions of objects were created.

The whole collection is made of gold, the only metal which can absorb negative energy and thus cleanse the whole body of negative loads, stress and illnesses. White coral acts synchronically upon black magic. Ebony wood represents the male principle in the set of objects and therefore balances the female-centred concept of the collection.

Crystal ball which may be touched solely by its owner.

Set of six magic wands in a rollable case, at hand and ready to use for the witch. There is a vein streaming energy through the ebony wood every wand is made of. Therefore, the baton functions. There is a semi-precious stone embedded in gold on the tip of each wand. Citrine, amethyst, crystal or rose quartz are found in the five thin ones. The sixth wand is notably thicker and equipped with an onyx point. It serves for grounding in case the magic falls out of the hands of the witch.

Flacons for potions as discreet necklaces which may be worn with the content of magic at all times.

Smudging bowl for white sage, a herb which cleanses the soul and the surroundings of negative energies and takes them away with its smoke.

Tray with a hair strand which Janja ritually cut off to close her own life phases. The power of the owner remains in the hair. Therefore, it is widely used in witchcraft. The hair is lying on the tray surrounded by protective corals because it is believed that one can be possessed through one’s hair.

Mirror is important in the phases when a woman wants to close circles. It is necessary to look at things realistically, not distortedly.

Set of jewellery, first with sharp, pointed edges.

Between clear heaven and dark earth,
Between a stake and the heart,
Between day and night,
I see the soul in the body
And a body without a soul,
A land of lights and wasteland of shadows.

Standing and falling,
I bloom and die,
I stagger between good and evil.
ABRACADABRA!
I want to come … out.

Standing in a house without windows,
In a window without gardens,
I seek light.
Without light, I die.
In my head, the land of lights and wasteland of shadows,
I walk through the places you once held dear.

To cleanse like in birth,
In the gyeser of good.
Where does it spring?
I stagger between good and evil.
ABRACADABRA
I want to come … out.
This is the path to who I am.
